In this second episode of Season 3, Brooke and Brice are hard at work growing their company and brand,
Deep South Modern. But clients keep rolling in and this week is business as usual. The project ahead presents opportunity and challenges for Brooke and Brice as they navigate a renovation project for a couple in need of not just one new space, not two, but three:
a bathroom, closet, and office.
Brice, always the jokester, tries some "magic" on Brooke in anticipation of their upcoming project.
The Clients
Brooke and Brice create something magical for homeowners Deepak and Vidya in this Season 3, Episode 2, "Making Magic." Deepak is a work from home professional as well as a magician, and has requested an office that includes space and storage for his magic accoutrements. Vidya is hoping for a closet update that is both practical and modern. Also in this couple's wishlist is a major bathroom renovation, including an oversized shower with bench, updated vanities, and added storage for them both.

The Spaces & Consultation
With three simultaneous projects for this particular client, Brooke and Brice have their work cut out for them. First up: a modern primary bathroom update. In addition to the one small single occupancy shower, there is also an unused, oversized tub, currently being used for overflow storage from Deepak and Vidya's closet. Their vanities are at different, non-matching heights, and there's no extra storage in sight.

The current primary closet has damaged walls where it has broken and been repaired several times, but it is in need of a more permanent, updated solution. It's time to get rid of the outdated wire shelving, and add modern, custom cabinetry instead.

Deepak's office is not only painted in a color he does not like, but it does not at all reflect his personal style or interests. He would like an office that is both modern and professional so that he can conduct his work-from-home business confidently. Additionally, he currently has no storage available for his magic-related supplies and accessories. So he's hoping Brooke and Brice can "work their magic" to update this room for him to accommodate all of his needs.

Modern Bathroom Ideas
To start, Brooke and Brice conceptualize opening up the area housing the tub to become an open shower with bench, complete with updated fixtures and a shower product niche. Then, they want to even out the height of the vanities to match one another, and convert the old shower space into a hidden storage closet for linens, laundry hampers, and bathroom supplies. They'll add new updated light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and accessories to make the bathroom feel more like a modern day spa.

Other Project Ideas
After ridding the closet of its' wire shelving, Brooke and Brice will get busy repairing the damaged walls, and begin constructing the custom wood cabinetry, complete with new drawers and other high end closet features. They'll also include adjustable rods that will allow for maximum flexibility. The closet will be completely custom for this client.
Deepak's new office is sure to delight when Brooke and Brice add all their magic touches. They'll create a custom cased bookshelf wall with cabinets and shelves for storage. And to add an extra pop of character and personalization, Brooke plans to paint custom artwork on a canvas that will rest behind Deepak's office chair. This will serve as the perfect, professional backdrop for virtual video calls for his work-from-home duties. On the opposite wall, will be a uniquely designed hidden closet system to house Deepak's magic supplies.

Growing the Business
At their workshop and business headquarters, Brooke gets busy creating a work shirt with custom DSM patch to present to their newest employee Charlie, as they offer him a full time position with the company. Big things ahead for their growing business!

Building a New Primary Closet

As the episode progresses, it takes the whole team to divide and conquer on all the custom wood cabinetry in all the various spaces of this renovation. It's all hands on deck!
Project Mishaps
Unfortunately, as is with most renovations, there's inevitably unpredictable complications where plumbing is involved. Deepak and Vidya's primary bathroom is no exception. The team discovers some leaks and promptly takes action to remedy them, before moving on with tile work or other parts of construction.

Office Cabinetry and Hidden Closet Install

While the custom cabinetry in this room consists of hardwood, the opposite feature wall consists of several individual square and rectangular pieces of thick MDF, assembled altogether to perfectly disguise the hidden closet feature in the room, which will house Deepak's magic accessories.

In the final stages of the renovation, Brooke paints a custom art piece to go behind Deepak's desk in his new office. It perfectly evokes a sense of mystery and magic to reflect the personality of the homeowner. Meanwhile Brice finds "something" in the closet that needs Brooke's attention.

The Big Reveal

Deepak and Vidya are welcomed back home and surprised to find their primary bathroom, closets, and office completely transformed.

The new bathroom is no longer giving ninety's flashbacks. Instead, it is a modern, luxurious, spa-like retreat for the homeowners to enjoy. The vanities have been completely updated with new cabinets, hardware, mirrors, plumbing, and light fixtures. The new shower is spacious, complete with bench seating, updated linear drain, beautiful large format tile, and new plumbing fixtures, including a rainfall shower head. But best of all, no more plumbing leaks!

To resolve the issue regarding lack of storage in this space, Brooke shows the homeowners their new uniquely discreet linen closet. Behind this unique hidden wall is a closet for storing all their bathroom supplies, linens, and laundry, neatly tucked away from open view.

This primary closet is a completely custom design for clients Deepak and Vidya. With adjustable shelves and rods, it can change with them over time. Additional features are pullout pants racks, beautiful hardware, and a variety of different size drawers to accommodate multiple types of clothing and accessories.

Brice picks a wall and cabinet color that changes tone throughout the day, creating a unique design experience that will keep you wondering what color it's actually painted, perfectly fit for a magician like Deepak.
